Welcome! I decided to start blogging as I am just starting out and am hoping to be able to look back 10 years from now and say "wow that was a rough start but you made it"! As my bio says, I have been into photography since i was extremely young. In fact, most of the pictures i have from high school and or middle school are of everyone except me. I carried around my little green Vivitar and my little Izod cameras like they were my entire life. Now i carry around my canon in case i see an amazing opportunity for a photo and have now suckered my husband into looking for those moments. Some say, "put the camera down and let life happen" I say "take as many photos as you can because one day the photos may be all you have left to help you remember the good times".
Around 2006, my maternal grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimers Disease. By 2007, we were lucky if she knew who any of us were. The pictures i took from that time and prior are now all i have left of her, to help me remember the person she was before the disease took her. In 2008 We lost my sister in law in a tragic accident, My photos are also again what reminds me of who she was. Though my memories aren't fading, i know as we age they can and most likely will. Right now in this very moment, you are a completely different person than you will be 10 or even 5 years from now. Life is an ever changing cycle of ups and downs and good and bad times. Why not capture those good times to remind us, when we are going through the bad, that there is surely another happy moment around the corner? I know me personally, if i am feeling down pictures of happy times help lift me up. Can they make me sad? sure. They are proof time moves fast but they are also proof that the past happened and that there are more amazing memories to be made.
Getting this started has not been easy. Failure is a constant fear when starting any business but in this field you have A LOT of competition. Some people just do it because it is easy money and an "easy" job. I do it because I LOVE doing it. Which is why i have my prices so low and will do my best to keep them that way. Yes my time is valuable like anyone else's, but I also know that not everyone can afford $100 or more for a few photos they may not necessarily love. I also do not currently have this business as my primary source of income. One day i hope to change that but for right now i am building my portfolio and loving every minute of it.
